Recently SDL ran a series of surveys throughout the translation community. The focus was on obtaining the latest thoughts from the community on both translation memory and terminology management. With over 3000+ responses some of the key findings include:

  • The use of translation memory and terminology has grown over the past 5 years and this is set to continue in 2010.

  • Microsoft format files are the most common file format for translation. Appearing in 66% of translation projects.

  • Translators’ productivity improves by up to 50% with proper terminology management.

  • Worryingly spreadsheets are still being used to manage source and multilingual terminology.
